El teorema se debe a G\u00f6sta Mittag-Leffler, de nombre Magnus Gustaf Leffler, apellido del padre, pero que m\u00e1s tarde modificar\u00eda por\u00a0Mittag-Leffler para incluir el apellido de la madre,\u00a0Gustava Wilhelmina Mittag. Estudi\u00f3 con\u00a0Weierstrass en Berlin, lo que le llev\u00f3 a interesarse en el estudio de las funciones meromorfas que su maestro trabaja.<\/p>\n

Laura E. Turner nos presenta un interesante art\u00edculo, The Mittag-Leffler Theorem: The origin, evolution, and reception of a mathematical result, 1876\u20131884<\/a>,donde estudia el desarrollo del teorema desde su inicio en 1876 hasta la versi\u00f3n final publicada en 1884.<\/p>\n

Mittag-Leffler\u02bcs work contributed significantly to Weierstrass\u02bc program on the foundations of analysis. His interest in generalizing his results to functions having arbitrarily many essential singularities, however, which led to his research on infinite sets of singular points, attracted him to Georg Cantor\u02bcs set-theoretic work. As we shall see, his use of Cantor\u02bcs theorems and definitions was closely linked to his research efforts in the context of Weierstrass\u02bc program.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
